Class Level Descriptions
All Level – These classes require the ability to get up and down from the mat. The poses are intended to increasing strength, flexibility, and balance. Planks, chatturangas, down-dogs, Sun Salutations, and weight bearing exercises on the hands & wrists are included. Variations and modifications of the postures are suggested and students can practice at their own level of expertise. Our all level classes do not assume prior yoga experience.
Beginner – Fundamental basics where postures are broken down so as to be understood by mind and body. This class is intended to teach students about where the body is in space (proprioception) and how to move safely in and through the postures. Very basic breathing techniques are touched on, as well. Much interaction between teacher and students.
Chair Yoga for those who have difficulty transitioning to and from the floor. It provides all the benefits of a traditional practice, chair yoga allows students to perform and enjoy the postures while seated and standing, using the chair for support. And the results can be the same.
Gentle yoga classes work to increasing your strength, flexibility, and balance, but at a much slower pace than an All Level class. Eliminating chatturanga’s, planks, most downdogs, and Sun Salutations. The teacher will try to avoid weight bearing exercises on the hands/wrists, and spend more time with stretches.
Level 2 – Mindful & intelligent sequencing. Flow with breath from one pose to another. Builds stamina and strength.
Meditation is a precise technique for resting the mind and attaining a state of consciousness that is totally different from the normal waking state. It is the means for fathoming all the levels of ourselves and finally experiencing the center of consciousness within. Meditation is not a part of any religion.
Slow Flow – Physical exercises known as asanas or postures with one breath, one movement.
Restorative – Comfortable, supported postures and therapeutic breathing techniques for rejuvenation and deep relaxation. It is a strong yet passive form of yoga in which postures are held three to five minutes using breath to open the body and enhance flexibility. Restorative yoga, with the added use of props, allows one to deeply relax and integrate. Yin options (i.e. postures without props) will be available for those desiring a more challenging aspect.
Vinyasa – Movement of body and breath to build heat, develop strength, flexibility and stamina.
